This first-person shooter features many accurately modeled real-world weapons, huge real-world environments, and plenty of targets to shoot at. It's the third game in NovaLogic's popular series, and like its predecessors, it can be particularly fun in its multiplayer mode. The game's proprietary graphics technology also allows for plenty of detail in all of the expansive settings.
Rising Sun (2000)

This outstanding, highly accessible wargame is the third in TalonSoft's popular Campaign series. As the name suggests, the game focuses on Pacific Theater combat during World War II. The mechanics and level of detail found in Rising Sun are perhaps best suited for serious wargame enthusiasts. However, the game's elegant approach is well suited for new players in the wargaming genre, too.
Project IGI: I'm Going In (2000)
Street Price: $39

This stealthy shooter puts you in the role of a special freelance agent named David Llewelyn Jones, who's commissioned to infiltrate various terrorist strongholds alone. Jones is fully capable of getting the job done, though, and will use a number of high-tech gadgets and real-world weapons to accomplish his missions. Project IGI is a single-player-only game, but it offers many challenging, fun-filled levels.
Europa Universalis (2001)
Street Price: $29

This epic real-time game of European conquest spans three whole centuries and features startling levels of depth and historical authenticity. It's a sprawling, impressive achievement that's perfect for history buffs, though perhaps daunting to more-casual players. Europa Universalis isn't about flat-out warfare. Battling other nations is certainly viable, but you can also succeed through shrewd economics, diplomacy, and more.
Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis (2001)
Street Price: $29

The newly released Operation Flashpoint is perhaps the finest tactical first-person shooter to date. Set in 1985 at the height of the Cold War, Operation Flashpoint successfully depicts a modern battlefield in 3D. The game is appropriately difficult--exceedingly difficult in some cases--yet it all amounts to a truly memorable experience and a vivid depiction of contemporary warfare.
Risk II (2000)
Street Price: $29

This computer sequel to the classic board game stays true enough to its extremely popular namesake but also introduces a lot of enjoyable, new features. It even looks great to boot. One of Risk II's more enjoyable features is its same-time mode, which is essentially a brand-new game requiring completely different strategies than the turn-based board game you're used to.
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six (1998)
Street Price: $19

Considered to be the game that started the now-popular trend of tactical military shooters, Rainbow Six lets you join up with and command an elite squad of counterterrorist operatives. Its realistic style means that one wrong move can spell disaster both for you and your team. Rainbow Six's sequel, Rogue Spear, is generally considered to be superior--but Rainbow Six still holds up and still commands a loyal following of players.
Close Combat: Battle of the Bulge (1999)
Street Price: $19

The fourth game in this realistic real-time strategy series, Close Combat: Battle of the Bulge does an exceptional job of modeling infantry behavior and morale, much like its predecessors did. It plays similarly to other real-time strategy games--only the troops under your command won't necessarily respond to your orders if you aren't mindful of their safety. Any game in the Close Combat series offers a distinctly human depiction of infantry warfare.
