This bizarre shooter lets you play as everything, from a giant bird to a giant teapot to a giant flying barrel--and if that's not enough to recommend it to you, we might also mention that it's a lot of fun to play. Flying Heroes features wide-open midair arena battles between all its unusual characters. It's great either in its single-player or multiplayer modes.

The fourth chapter in LucasArts' popular adventure gaming series once again puts you in control of Guybrush Threepwood, the pencil-necked pirate wannabe, as he tries to uncover the mystery of a dangerous artifact known as The Ultimate Insult. The humor in Escape from Monkey Island hits you at a mile a minute. The game looks great, the puzzles are generally clever, and the voice acting is superb.

The game's colorful appearance hides the rather involved strategic business management simulation underneath.

A fast-paced, colorful 2D side scroller, Jazz Jackrabbit 2 looks like it might have come straight from a video game console. But it's a PC game to the core, and it's a very good one at that. It's got two distinct playable characters, great levels, responsive control, and plenty of action. You'll actually have to fight your way back in time in an effort to thwart the evil turtle mastermind, Devan Shell.

The classic Lemmings series returns in dazzling 3D in Lemmings Revolution. As in previous Lemmings games, the object of Lemmings Revolution is to guide herds of practically mindless Lemmings through a series of extremely dangerous levels. Be careful, as these green-haired critters will senselessly blunder into trouble unless you can quickly herd them in the right direction.

Remember Frogger, the hapless amphibian hero who starred in his own '80s-era arcade game? He's back, and now he's in 3D. And you'll have to help him through 30 challenging levels, filled with enemies, traps, and puzzles. Frogger 2 is easy to play and looks great, and it offers plenty of enjoyable arcade action for players of all ages. It's a worthy successor to the original '80s game.

The recently released Startopia seemed to slip under the radar of many players, but it really shouldn't be missed. It's a cleverly designed, graphically impressive, and thoroughly enjoyable strategy game in which your goal is to build a space station that can make a suitable home for a wide variety of weird alien species. It's a complex, interesting game that's fun to look at and even more fun to play.

If you don't mind a little lowbrow humor--or, more to the point, a lot of lowbrow humor--then Giants: Citizen Kabuto will fit the bill. It will also fit the bill if you want a gorgeous-looking, inventive, lengthy, and rewarding action game. Giants has a funny premise and a lot of great characters, and it's even got some strategy elements and a fun multiplayer mode for good measure.
