Considering Shattered Galaxy is the first massively multiplayer real-time strategy game, you might assume that the game would have too many rough edges to be anything more than just innovative. Shouldn't a more tried-and-true game design, rather than a daringly original one like this, end up as the best multiplayer strategy game of the year? On the contrary, Shattered Galaxy provides such a remarkably well-done and refreshing change of pace to conventional RTS gaming that it completely deserves this most distinguished title. The game may not look like much--but it can easily keep you occupied for hours at a time, for days on end--even for months.

A typical battle in Shattered Galaxy will have around 10 to 20 players fighting on each side, but the trick is that you can have only a limited number of units fighting at any given time. So you need to choose your units wisely and coordinate with your fellow faction members to succeed. The focus on battles between large teams is completely unique to the game.

Shattered Galaxy incorporates some role-playing elements to keep you interested for the long run. Your player character has four attributes that you can increase to make him more powerful. For example, tactics lets you command more units on the battlefield, while education lets you quickly gain access to more-powerful weapons. What's also unique about Shattered Galaxy is that you'll find an equal number of players choosing to specialize in any of the various well-balanced attributes.

To keep you all the more interested in the game for the long run, Nexon frequently runs events in the gameworld. You may log in one day to find that all your units run three times their normal speed or that an evil corporation has taken over one of the factions. Nexon always creates entertaining stories to go along with these events in keeping with the game's sci-fi theme. The result is that you'll always feel like you're a part of a dynamic world and that you're making your own little contribution to its ultimate destiny.
