Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos combines all the elements--elements that have made previous space sims great--together into one very impressive game. While it is possibly one of the most complex space sims ever released, all of its features work well together to provide an engrossing experience unmatched by any other game of its type. The game's crisp, colorful graphics are unsurpassed by those of any other game in the genre and are available at higher resolutions than those offered in previous games, and its high-quality soundtrack provides additional ambience. Independence War 2 also includes an intuitive onscreen interface, realistic ship physics, and a streamlined control system.

What makes the game particularly notable is its combination of an elaborate open-ended environment in which players can freely explore solar systems, fight enemy factions, and trade or steal upgrades for their spaceship; and its engaging nonlinear storyline, which players can follow by completing a wide variety of missions. The game also supports multiplayer battles for those who want additional space combat action. While space simulation games have declined in popularity over the past few years, it's evident that Independence War 2 fulfills the genre's potential in a way that no other game has achieved. This is the game that fans of space sims have been waiting for.
