Though they were not in extreme abundance, this year's various shooters were characterized by their generally outstanding quality. Never before have there been so many excellent, broadly appealing action games in a single year. Though multiplayer action is an ever-growing genre--for many players, it's already replaced conventional single-player action--this year's single-player action games featured countless impressive moments.
