Welcome to the annual Readers' Choice Best and Worst Awards. More than 20,000 readers participated in the 2000 Readers' Choice Awards, and the results range from obvious to pleasantly surprising. In this award feature, there were quite a few close races in which a game won by a narrow margin of votes - 2000 was definitely the year of election surprises. However, you won't find any voting irregularities here; GameSpot counted every reader vote so that your opinion would be heard.

As is tradition, we present the winner and the first runner-up for each award, along with the top five games ranked according to percentage in each category. For the Game of the Year award, we list your top ten favorite games.
