PC Computer and Games

You can get pretty much any kind of game for the PC, though some of the strongest genres tend to be action games, like first-person shooters, and strategy games, like real-time strategy games. However, there were several exceptional role-playing games this year, as well as a number of great sports, driving, simulation, and adventure games too. For more information about game genres, please consult our genre explanation page.  Battlefield 1942

GameSpot excerpt:
"Whether battling on foot or flying a plane, you'll get to fight across 16 huge battlefields inspired by real ones, like Iwo Jima, Midway, El Alamein, Omaha Beach, Kursk, Stalingrad, and Berlin. Each map features its own unique tactical challenges, thanks to the terrain, base and control-point locations, vehicles allotted to each team, and positioning of stations where you can heal yourself or grab more ammo for small arms or vehicles."

 Blood Omen 2

GameSpot excerpt:
"There's still a lot to like about Blood Omen 2, but, much like the original, its fiendish main character is the best thing about it. Blood Omen 2 is primarily an action game. As Kain, you'll have to slaughter countless human and inhuman foes with either your claws or a number of different melee weapons. Combat is pretty simple and easy to control--you use a gamepad or the familiar keyboard/mouse combination used for most PC action games."

 Command & Conquer Renegade

GameSpot excerpt:
"[Renegade's] single-player mode is a fine homage to a real-time strategy classic, while the multiplayer mode has a lot to offer those interested in multiplayer shooters--especially those who also consider themselves C&C fans. Furthermore, like all of Westwood's products, Renegade is also a highly accessible, impressively produced game, making it well suited for players who've wanted to get into shooters but have felt intimidated by their generally steep learning curves."
