The Top Xbox Games of E3 2003
Microsoft's first console had perhaps its strongest showing ever at this year's E3. Leading the charge is Halo 2, which will undoubtedly be one of the biggest games ever when it's finally released. Just getting to see actual footage of this mammoth game was enough for us to justify the trip to E3. Xbox Live is also really taking off, and the system is becoming home to quite a few original titles. The Xbox will definitely be a platform to watch this year.
5. True Fantasy Live Online
Developed by: Level 5
Published by: Microsoft
Release Date: 2004
True Fantasy Live Online marks the next step in the evolution of online RPGs on consoles. Whereas early entries such as Sega's Phantasy Star Online served up modest but accessible gameplay, True Fantasy Live Online promises a deeper experience. The game is being developed by Level 5, which is best known for the Dark Cloud games on the PlayStation 2, and it is slated to offer a unique blend of gameplay. Think one part Phantasy Star Online, one part Animal Crossing, and a healthy dose of Dark Cloud 2's item-creation system, and you'll have an idea of what to expect from True Fantasy Live Online.
You'll create a virtual alter ego from one of five different races and then head out to live a virtual life. Start out with a small house that you can upgrade and decorate any way you like with items you buy or make on your own. Head out on adventures with a party of up to 10 people you can talk to via Xbox Live. Or settle down, open up a shop, and explore a career in one of several trades in the game. You'll be able to stock your establishment with items you collect on your travels or unique creations you make yourself and personalize with your virtual signature. You'll even be able to raise animals you can ride. True Fantasy Live Online is an ambitious game that should raise the bar for what we expect from an online console RPG.
