Best Sound on Xbox

In the past few years, sound has become an increasingly important element in games. As game sound effects have become more advanced, designers have started using sound as a key element. It's now more important than ever that games feature a wide variety of diverse, realistic sound effects, as well as high-quality, professionally recorded speech and dialogue. Here is the winner of Best Sound on Xbox:

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon

Ghost Recon's combat is a study in paranoia and suspense, driven largely by its fantastic sound work. Superb sound is evident literally in all directions in Ghost Recon, as it uses surround sound to stunning effect. Whether it's a startling single sniper shot ringing out in the distance, a teammate's shout, or the sound of footsteps, there's no guesswork required--you can hear exactly the direction and more. The sound is a necessity, fundamental to the gameplay, used at full effect to further your gaming experience. Also especially notable is Ghost Recon's incorporation and use of multiplayer voice communication. Instead of being a gimmicky addition that serves no real purpose, voice communication plays a key role in the multiplayer experience, allowing real-time conversation between players that's usable, strategically viable, and necessary. Ghost Recon truly would have been a lesser game without the superb sound and voice communication--it goes beyond just featuring good sound quality, to incorporating and using sound so well that it becomes an invaluable gameplay asset.

Other Nominees:

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
MechAssault
Medal of Honor Frontline
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell
