Best Fighting Game on PlayStation 2, Nominees

We love fighting games here at GameSpot, and we count games like Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat II, Samurai Shodown, and Soul Calibur as some of our all-time favorites. While it's definitely the case that the genre has seen better days, each year at least a couple of great new fighting games emerge. The PlayStation 2 was the only platform that saw a competitive array of these games this year, and from them, we present the following as our nominees for Best Fighting Game on PlayStation 2:

Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance

Publisher: Midway
Developer: Midway

Anyone looking for a wilder ride than the one offered by Tekken 4 or Virtua Fighter 4 should definitely check out Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance.

You couldn't call it ambitious. But you could still call it one of the better fighting games in years.

Virtua Fighter 4

Publisher: Sega
Developer: SEGA-AM2

You can't tell right off the bat, but Virtua Fighter 4 is the best fighting game in years.
