Much like last year, this year there was a huge variety of strategy games available all year round, and many of these games--perhaps even most of them--were well worth playing. Whether you prefer sci-fi, fantasy, or historical themes in games, rest assured at least a couple of excellent strategy games in your favorite category were published in the last 12 months. Many strategy games now focus squarely on providing well-balanced multiplayer skirmishes, but for this award, we have nominated the five strategy games that offer the most rewarding, most challenging, and overall best single-player experience:
