![]() Most Disappointing Delay Without fail, every year some of the most hotly anticipated games end up getting delayed until the following year for various reasons. At GameSpot, we're as disappointed as anyone to not be able to get our hands on some of these exciting-looking games in the time frame we expected to--though we suppose it makes our deliberations for this award easier when some of these big-name games get pushed back. At any rate, here's the one game whose delay most disappointed us, since we just can't wait to play it:

Anytime a high-profile Nintendo game is delayed, there's inevitably a collective sigh from the company's legions of fans. But the delay of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker until 2003 is especially disappointing because, well, it's Zelda--arguably the greatest of Nintendo's great franchises. Link's newest adventure has him chasing after an enormous bird that swoops down from the skies and kidnaps his sister, who's revealed for the first time in the Legend of Zelda series. But more importantly, The Wind Waker marks a distinct departure in the series' traditional look, as all the characters and environments are now cel-shaded and generally are much more cartoonlike than before. For the most part, it appears that the battle and inventory systems have not been changed since the Nintendo 64 installments in the Zelda series. Link can still lock on to certain enemies during battle and use the items in his active inventory with the press of a single button. Yet we have a very good feeling that there's much more to The Wind Waker than we first expected. Too bad we won't know for sure for a little while longer. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is scheduled for release in North America in March.
