![]() Funniest Game (Purposely) Legitimately funny games are the rarest games of all. For a wide variety of reasons, the medium of gaming just isn't very conducive to humor, partly because games often involve repetitive or scripted actions, yet humor requires spontaneity and surprise. At any rate, some games do manage to be extremely sharp, clever, or even downright hilarious--hence we present the award for Funniest Game (Purposely):

Though there were a fair number of funny games this year, we're giving the title of Funniest Game (Purposely) to Monolith's excellent 1960s-themed shooter No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.'s Way. Why? Because it has absolutely hilarious dialogue delivered by a colorful cast of characters. Aside from the fact that it features an evil mastermind who's also a mama's boy, No One Lives Forever 2 features expressive and detailed character animation that really helps bring its characters to life, including its utterly absurd French mime villains, who eagerly articulate themselves with pantomime before breaking character when they're hit with weapon fire and blurting out ridiculous phrases like, "Oh-ho, that's very excruciating!" The original No One Lives Forever was a colorful, humorous game that was memorable for its funny dialogue and characters, and we're pleased to report that the sequel is just as funny.
