Best Party Game on GameCube

While the GameCube technically supports online play, it hasn't come as far along in this regard as the Xbox and PlayStation 2 have. Nevertheless, the GameCube does allow up to four players to compete or cooperate in certain games, and Nintendo's console is home to numerous really enjoyable multiplayer games that are especially great when played with groups of friends. The greatest of these wins our award for Best Party Game on GameCube:

Super Monkey Ball 2

Publisher: Sega
Developer: Amusement Vision

Competition wasn't too fierce for best GameCube party game this year, but the two contenders were most definitely worthy. You might think that Mario Party 4 would be the shoo-in for this award, but in the end, Amusement Vision's bizarre action puzzle sequel walked away with the honors. Make no mistake, though--both of these games hold great potential to draw large groups of casual gamers around the GameCube.

However, one thing that gives Super Monkey Ball 2 the edge is the pacing of its multiplayer games. While Mario Party 4 requires a bit of a time investment from the group, a satisfying round of monkey fight can be done in minutes, keeping the controllers moving and keeping everyone involved. This, combined with both the quality and quantity of the multiplayer games, is why we've chosen Super Monkey Ball 2 as the GameCube party game of the year.
