Usually we can look at a game and know whether it's more technically impressive or more artistically impressive. But this year's winner for Best Graphics (Technical) on GameCube did the near-impossible task of merging the game's artistic elements with its technology to bring you a gorgeous gameworld that's so subtly designed that it at times makes you forget that it's part of a video game. You're never taken out of the experience of the game's huge, seamless world due to how Metroid Prime masterfully hides its loading times. Other graphical effects are used to impressive results but are still subtle enough that they're almost difficult to notice.
