Special Achievement Awards: Best Music on GameCube

Nothing enhances a gaming experience quite like a stirring musical score can. In the past two decades, game soundtracks have evolved from simple series of digitized beeps into moving, professional compositions. The best of these are created specifically to enhance particular scenes in their respective games. Here is the winner of Best Music on GameCube:

Metroid Prime

Publisher: Nintendo
Developer: Retro Studios

Though the actual sound effects of the superlative Metroid Prime are good, the game's musical score really stands out and contributes greatly to the game's atmosphere and science fiction setting. Any fan of the Metroid series would be immediately delighted at hearing the game's remixed interpretations of many of the classic Metroid themes. But these compositions are excellent in their own right and help guide the pacing of the game as it gently picks up and slows down from one area to the next. And, much like the rest of the game, the music tracks blend seamlessly together to keep you enthralled in the overall experience. From the moment you hear the game's chilling and rhythmic title track, the music in Metroid Prime will have you hooked.

Other Nominees:

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem
Medal of Honor Frontline
Star Fox Adventures
