Best Story on Game Boy Advance

Over the years, games have proven to be a viable storytelling medium, as they combine the multimedia elements and production values of movies with the length and depth of novels--and of course, they're interactive, which ideally lets you experience the story in a game as vividly as possible. GameSpot's best story award goes to the one game that's most striking because of the quality of its original story, its characters, and its storytelling techniques. Here is the winner of Best Story on Game Boy Advance:

Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis

Publisher: Atlus
Developer: Quest

The relatively little-known Tactics Ogre series has always had a strong following of fans who commend this distinctive set of strategic role-playing games both for their deep gameplay and for their exceptional and surprisingly complex stories. Perhaps unsurprisingly, then, Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis for the Game Boy Advance stands as a powerful reminder that great video game stories can still come in small packages. The Knight of Lodis tells the tale of Alphonse, a young soldier sent to investigate an unclaimed land with a small contingent of men-at-arms. There Alphonse encounters much more than he bargained for: betrayal, death, mermaids, a legendary spear, and the remnants of a once-proud god. Tactics Ogre features well-written dialogue, strong characters, and surprisingly serious themes. A number of different endings to this lengthy adventure are available based on decisions that you, as Alphonse, make during the game, and chances are you'll want to experience them all.

Other Nominees:

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Metroid Fusion
