EA announces NFL Street

The team behind Madden NFL Football is working on another football game.

Electronic Arts has officially announced another new game in its line of EA Sports Big titles. The game, NFL Street, will attempt to do for football what NBA Street did for basketball, tossing many of the game's real-life rules out the window in order to deliver a faster, more arcade-like game of football.

The first rule the game tweaks is the number of players. NFL Street is a seven-on-seven game, and all punts, extra points, and field goals have been removed. The game has no penalties, and will feature a lot of tricky over-the-top moves, passes, jukes, and more. The PlayStation 2 version of the game will feature online play.

As in NBA Street, you'll be able to play as any of the existing NFL teams or create your own, pulling players from the NFL teams or creating your own. You'll have a lot of control over how the helmetless players will look, including the ability to change hairstyles or add tattoos.

NFL Street is scheduled for release in early 2004 on the Xbox, GameCube, and PlayStation 2. We'll have more on NFL Street as soon as it becomes available.
