EA confirms GameCube support
Electronic Arts has confirmed that it will support the Nintendo GameCube with at least ten games.
Electronic Arts has announced that it currently plans to release at least ten games for the Nintendo GameCube. The company will release games from some of its major franchises on the console, including such titles as Madden NFL 2002, SSX and NBA Street from the EA Big line of products, and the next game from its highly successful FIFA series.
"EA takes a systematic approach to evaluating new hardware platforms and we're very excited about the potential for the Nintendo GameCube," said Larry Probst, EA's chairman and CEO. "Nintendo has a proven track record in the areas of vision, innovation, and execution that positions the Nintendo GameCube to be a major force in the industry."
"Electronic Arts is one of the world's best developers," said Minoru Arakawa, president of Nintendo of America. "We're thrilled to have the variety of games they are creating for the Nintendo GameCube, especially the sports games which appeal so well to the teen and older players."
Electronic Arts will unveil Madden NFL 2002 at the upcoming E3 shown in Los Angeles. The GameCube will launch in North American in November. This announcement solidifies the company's multiplatform strategy as it has shown continued support for the Sony PlayStation 2 and will release several games for the launch of the Microsoft Xbox.
