US console charts: August 21-27

Madden NFL 07 takes top seven slots in last week's Best Buy charts; Dead Rising, Brain Age, New Super Mario Bros. round out list.

Apparently, the question, "Are you ready for some football?" is rhetorical when it comes to gamers. The answer, of course, is a resounding, "Yes," and evidence of that was shown in last week's Best Buy sales charts.

The top 10 best-selling games from last week looked eerily like a football score: Madden 7, others 3. The 07 edition of Electronic Arts' annual football game nabbed the top seven slots in its first week in release. The platforms represented were, from first to seventh, the PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, Xbox, PS2 (Hall of Fame Edition), Xbox 360 (Hall of Fame Edition), PlayStation Portable, and GameCube. The only console versions of Madden NFL 07 not to make the top 10 were the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance versions.

When gamers weren't tackling running backs last week, they were killing zombies. Capcom's Dead Rising landed in eighth place, down three spots from the previous week. But even hordes of undead and 350-pound linemen couldn't stop the DS duo of Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day and New Super Mario Bros. The two titles remained on the top 10 list in ninth and 10th, respectively.

I don't know why everyone is so offended that Madden made it to the top of the list. Besides the fact that it's the only new major game released recently, it's a game that has a huge casual gamer following. Spend some time in any university dorm and I promise you there will be someone playing Madden. With the possible exception of Halo (or 2), no game comes close. You can complain about the casual gamer all you want, but without them, the video game industry will fail. Without these big hits, other great games that have limited appeal, will never be made.

Also, stop with the America bashing. It's sad that someone can base an opinion on an entire country just because a football game happened to sell well. If you're going to hate us Americans, at least do it for a real reason.

I get that Madden is a great football sim. But why would someone buy it more than once every 4 years?

yeah shingo you would be right except that some guy with a beer can wouldn't know what brain age is...and he would be retarded to say that anyways because brain age and mario have been at the top of the list for pretty much 2 months except when a new game comes out, but they quickly return to the top.
