Madden Challenge kicks off Sept. 1

First official international tourney for EA's NFL franchise set to start barely a week after game hits shelves.

Madden 2007 drops August 22 for a slew of systems, and those who want to prove they're the best in the world will have to get on top of it quicker than a loose ball in the Super Bowl. Electronic Arts today announced that the fifth annual Madden Challenge tournament will begin September 1.

For the first time, the Madden Challenge is going international, as the winners of 26 US regional tournaments will join the champs from five regionals in other countries to compete for a grand-prize package including a check for $100,000 on February 8 at the Pro Bowl in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The tournament will be sponsored by Microsoft and Best Buy, and competition will be held on the Xbox and Xbox 360 versions of the game in two separate divisions. The professional division (limited to a field of 512 entrants in each region) will use the Xbox version, while the Xbox 360 division (up to 64 players in each region) will use the next-gen edition of the game.

    whats up with other countries playing games of our sport thats kinda weird they should have a rugby challenge or w/e they play.

    I have a few friends that would do pretty well in a Madden tourney. They just can't seem to get the Xbox/Xbox360 control scheme. It's PS2 for them or bust. Looks like I'll have to get them up to speed on 360 quick!

    Awesome... I want to enter the Madden Challenge. I'm sure i'll get owned, because I'm prbly not the BEST Madden player out there, but there's something about football games that just makes me good at them.

    One year probley near 2015 your going to here Gordon Duncan as Madden champ but before then Im just going to keep homing my skills. I have beat all madden (7 min quarters) I was Greenbay and the other team was the Chargers I won 82 to 0. Never came close to that score again.
