TOKYO--Nintendo is bringing Pokémon XD: Yami no Kaze no Dark Lugia to the GameCube this August. The game was shown during Nintendo's pre-E3 press conference and will be known as Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness in America.

The XD in the title stands for "Xtra Dimension," an indication that the game is set in an alternate reality from existing Pokémon games, according to Nintendo. The gameworld is full of Dark Pokémon, which look the same as their Pokémon counterparts but possess their own unique powers.

Pokémon XD's subtitle translates into English as "The Dark Lugia of the Shadowy Wind." As the title implies, one of the key points to the game's storyline is a jet-black Lugia Pokémon that has turned to the dark side, for a reason not yet fully revealed.

Pokémon XD is due on August 4 in Japan at the price of 5,800 yen ($54).
