How do I complete Rodolfo's Estate?

I am stuck in Pherkad at Rodolfo's Estate. I can't get the guy on the roof to talk about smoke (he only mentions burning papers and that the potatos are almost done), and I can't get the cook to do anything but complain about cooking. I tried giving him spoiled pow meat, but that didn't work. I think I talked to everyone. I can't figure out what I missed. Help???

When I examine the fire, all that happens is that I am asked if I want to capture its magnus essence. The guy continues to talk about burning papers and cooking potatos.

Examine the fire next to the aforementioned "guy on the roof". This will trigger Sagi to ask "guy on the roof" about smoke. Then, talk to the chef in the kitchen and proceed with the story.
