E3 06: Blitz bringing SpongeBob to Wii

British company announced as developer of Wii, PS2, GameCube versions of next SpongeBob SquarePants game.

Last week, THQ announced its lineup of games based on the properties of Nickelodeon, a cable television network aimed at children. Chief among the games revealed was SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab. Little details have surfaced about the game, but it is known that it will be released on the Wii, PlayStation 2, GameCube, DS, and the Game Boy Advance.

Though scant info on what's in the game has been released, we now know who is behind it. UK-based Blitz Games, located in Leamington Spa, Warkshire, revealed itself as the developer of the console versions of the game. This is the second-announced next-gen game for Blitz following the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game Possession, currently in the works by Volatile Games, a division of Blitz. The developer(s) of the handheld versions of The Creature from the Krusty Krab has not yet been announced.

Fans of the game's porous protagonist will have to wait a bit longer for more gameplay details, as today's announcement kept quiet on what to expect in Creature from the Krusty Krab, merely stating that it offers "brand new gameplay mechanics" and allows gamers to "race, chase, drive, fly, and smash" through the "dream worlds of SpongeBob SquarePants." However, Blitz did confirm that the game will be on show at E3, so fans can expect details next week.

The gameplay mechanics could be interested but I can't get excited for a Spongebob game.

Sigh people adults who have played the spongebob games say they are not crap but well designed. The spongebob games get great ratings on average while your supposed "mature" titles overwhelmingly get bottom of the barrel in the ratings department.

This title is the one that Nintendo hater Tommy Tallarinco said was interesting to play and mentioned all the ways the controller was used. '

Examples were a flight stick, racing wheel, hammer to destroy stuff.

Kiddie isn't even a word. The PS2 has far more games made for little girls. The Xbox has Barbie Horse Adventures which got horrible ratings and isn't even something you would want to give to a child since it would crush their spirit with it's mediocrity.

Lol, Spongebob will be a big seller, don't underestimate the little kid demographic. Now what Spongebob won't be is a system seller. But Nintendo have yet another Mario game for that, so no worries.

How long can you sustain waving you arm around in front of you? That is the question. Lactic acid is the answer.

I hope this game turns out as good as Bruce Lee: Quest of the Dragon for xbox , Waynes World for the genesis and Robocop for the PS2.

EVERY COOL CONSOLE (they're all cool) GETS CRAP GAMES. EVery single console ever released has ALWAYS gotten a game like this!!

I don't know who buys these games but every console gets one, this is just getting publicity because its for Wii, I don't see announcements every time some loser company decides to make a barbie game and port it everywhere, do you?

Couldn't care less for the game, but more support means more sales, which means more support from other companies (more games) in the long run. And for all you people pissed off... WTF? Oh, wow, Nintendo is getting a Spongebob game... guess what? Every freakin' console got kiddie games like this. Whether or not a system is "kiddie" has nothing to do with what games are on it, it'll be decided by what games aren't on it. Xbox had lots of games like this, but people don't consider it "kiddie." Gamecube had fewer games like Halo and God of War, so people did consider it kiddie.

_LEGIONS_, I think you should realize that just as many adults watch Spongebob as do children. It is very funny.

So is this gonna be like when the Dreamcast came out, and developers made the same game for N64 and PSX and an enhanced one for Dreamcast, or in this case, Cube, PS2, and Wii.

Wow, just thinking about it I will bet you that they don't make it unique at all. Just another "younger audience" game.
