This game should not be dismissed by anyone who loves older Bioware style games.

User Rating: 8 | Game of Thrones PC

Game of Thrones is a massively underrated gem of a game that will appeal to Bioware fans and people who love a good story. Not everyone will enjoy GoT, and that's understandable, but it all just depends on what you're looking for in a game.

Some people dislike the game, saying it's not enough of a "game" and is instead more of an interactive novel. While this might feel true for certain gamers, I do not agree with this standpoint, as I feel that gameplay shouldn't be defined as action, action, action. There's enough clever puzzles, diplomatic branching conversations and even strategy involved in Game of Thrones to make it a challenge and to make it fun,

Other people hated the voice acting. While I agree that around half of the cast are pretty poorly voiced, the rest do grow on you. It's not quite as bad as some people make out, and even the initially wooden protagonist actors seem to get more into their roles as the game goes on.

The game has also been criticised for having a poorly executed combat system, and many claim it's essentially just a poor man's Dragon Age in terms of fighting. I personally do not see the combat system as that important in a game, and if you do then you might dislike the fighting in Game of Thrones. It's animations are repetitive, and it's a bit clunky at times, but there are many who do enjoy the tactical aspect of the combat, as opposed to the button mashing offered by games such as Skyrim. No, it's not great, but it does have some merit as a strategy gameplay element once you evolve your characters' roleplay skill trees further down the line.

All in all, I'd rate this game as one of my favourite 50 of all time, and I'm not the type to do that very often. The music, the story, the puzzles, the dialog and the choices are all just spectacular, and it's a crime that a game with as much good aspects can get such poor ratings just because it doesn't offer constant, button mashing action. For me, who places importance on story, artistic merit, and interactivity above all things in a game, I found this to an engrossing work of fiction which captivated me for around 40 hours on the first playthrough.
