As the topic says, this game seems great fun at first. The first play through or two are interesting, trying to figure out the better combinations and the more important research topics, etc. But as soon as you begin figuring out the way this game actually works it loses it's charm and actually becomes completely un-interesting.
The problem largely is that the game is very scripted, there are very few random elements. So once you know that at around a certain point this or that device will have the largest market share it will do so every single time you play. Got a winning combination? That same combination will get you similar results next time and actually every time. The scoring is largely based on a very defined set of rules, so experimenting with strange combinations will not gain you any popularity or success.
Basically a decent product for a tablet or a phone, for a PC it may work as a $3 game, I'd honestly feel that $5 is too much to ask for something as limited and limiting as this release. Game Dev Tycoon has an extremely long journey before it could truly carry the Tycoon part of the title, as it is it's much too simple and bland, SimAquarium has significantly more depth then this game.
If you're looking for a few minutes of entertainment and you're interested in the topic, just not the tycoon part, and this is available for $3 or less, go ahead and give this a try. Although your money would be much better spent on a HumbleBundle, where you'd get actual games that will give you at least a few hours of entertainment.
