Meet your starter Pokemon
Before we delve into the most powerful creatures living in the Alolan Isles in Nintendo's Pokemon Sun & Moon, we need to introduce you to your new generation of starter Pokemon.
From left to right we have: Grass Quill Pokemon Rowlet, Fire Cat Pokemon Litten, and Sea Lion Pokemon Popplio.

Decidueye, the Arrow Quill Pokemon
The final evolution of Rowlet is something of a ninja/archer hybrid. It's stealthy, quick, and can fire off deadly-accurate arrow quills from its wings.
This grass/ghost-type has a unique move called Spirit Shackle, which prevents its opponents from fleeing or being switched out of battle.

Incineroar, the Heel Pokemon
Litten, meanwhile, evolves into this fire/dark-type. You know Incineroar loves to fight, if only because Nintendo and Game Freak went through the trouble to make it look like a cartoonish wrestling villain.
Its unique Darkest Lariat move ignores all stat changes on its target.

Primarina, the Soloist Pokemon
The final form of Popplio is the singing, dancing water/fairy-type Primarina. It moves through the air by creating and bouncing off of bubbles of water. It attacks enemies, meanwhile, with exploding water bubbles.
Primarina's unique move, Torrent, is capable of healing its target's burns.
Solgaleo, the Sunne Pokemon
The official mascot of Pokemon Sun, legendary Pokemon Solgaleo is known around Alola as "the beast that devours the sun."
Its Full Metal Body ability protects this psychic/steel-type from having its stats lowered by its opponents.

Lunala, the Moone Pokemon
The legendary mascot of Pokemon Moon, meanwhile, is a psychic/ghost type Lunala, "the beast that calls the moon."

Zygarde 10% Forme, the Order Pokemon
If you want to own the third legendary Pokemon in Sun & Moon, you'll need to put in work. Zygarde is a dragon/ground-type made of cells and cores you'll need to search out.
The more you collect, the stronger he gets.

Zygarde 50% Forme, the Order Pokemon
The snake-like Zygarde 50% Forme, as its name suggests, comes together when you've collected half of Zygarde's cells.

Zygarde Complete Forme, the Order Pokemon
You don't want to mess with this legendary badass, that's for sure.
A Zygarde 10% or Zygarde 50% can change into this form using Power Construct, but only if it has less than half its maximum HP.

Silvally, the Synthetic Pokemon
This man-made Pokemon's type changes depending on what item is inserted into the drive on its head. It's the final evolution of Type: Null.

Lycanroc, the Wolf Pokemon
Puppy Pokemon Rockful evolves into one of two different forms, depending on which version of the game you're playing. In Pokemon Sun, it becomes the Midday form of Lycanroc, blessed with speedy attacks.
It's so speedy, in fact, that it always gets the first attack in battle when using its Accelerock ability.

Lycanroc, the (Were)Wolf Pokemon
This werewolf-esque form of Lycanroc, meanwhile, is only available in Pokemon Moon. Its Counter ability returns any damage it takes from its opponent twofold.

Gumshoos, the Stakeout Pokemon

Oricorio, the Dancing Pokemon
This unique dancing bird Pokemon has four different forms, one for each of Alola's islands.
The yellow Pom-Pom Style Oricorio is an electric/flying type, the red Baile Style Oricorio is fire/flying, the pink Pa'u Style Oricorio is psychic/flying, and the purple Sensu Style Oricorio is a ghost/flying-type. All four can mimic dances used by their opponents.

Mimikyu, the Disguise Pokemon
Mimikyu is so incredibly lonely that it spends its life pretending to be the far-more-popular Pikachu in the hopes of making new friends.
Its disguise is useful in battle, too -- it allows the ghost/fairy type to completely avoid one attack.

Bewear, the Strong Arm Pokemon
The evolved form of the cute and cuddly Stufful, normal/fighting-type Pokemon Bewear is the most deadly of stuffed animals. Its flailing arms cause serious damage, and its hug can crush bones.
It's Fluffy ability causes it to only take half damage from physical attacks, but at the cost of becoming vulnerable to fire attacks.

Drampa, the Placid Pokemon
According to Nintendo, this normal/dragon-type is especially gentle and protective with children despite its massive size.
In other words: Drampa is Falkor.

Pyukumuku, the Sea Cucumber Pokemon
When this water-type Pokemon faints in battle, it uses its "Innards Out" ability to puke fist-like guts onto the enemy, dealing a final burst of damage.
In fact, most of its attacks involve smacking foes around with its guttyworks.

Palossand, the Sand Castle Pokemon
Palossand, while appearing cute, is a true horror. It swallows Pokemon using a sand vortex and devours their life forces.
The tortured souls of its Pokemon prey eventually become Palossands themselves.

Togedemaru, the Roly-Poly Pokemon
Squeeeeeee! The latest in a long line of unbearably cute electric-type Pokemon, Togdemaru attacks using lightning and retractable spines in its back.
It can also gather energy from electric-type attacks and return the blast to its foes.

Salandit, the Toxic Lizard Pokemon
This sneaky-looking poison/fire-type is known for emitting sweet-but-toxic gases from its tail.

Tapu Koko, the Land Spirit Pokemon
Each of the four Aloan islands in Pokemon Sun & Moon has its own guardian deity. Tapu Koko is the electric/fairy-type guardian of Melemele Island.

Tapu Bulu, the Land Spirit Pokemon
Ula'ula Island's grass/fairy-type guardian, Tapu Bulu, has the power to control flora. It can cause plants and plant matter to grow, including the wooden horns on its own head.
Its Grassy Surge ability boosts the power of grass-type moves, restores HP to Pokemon on the ground, and halves damage from the moves Earthquake, Magnitude and Bulldoze.

Tapu Lele, the Land Spirit Pokemon
The guardian of Akala Island, psychic/fairy-type Tapu Lele, is covered with glowing scales that can heal the injuries of others -- or cause the destruction of others via overstimulation.
Its Psychic Terrain move covers the battlefield with "weird," boosting the power of psychic-type moves and preventing other Pokemon from launching priority attacks.

Tapu Fini, the Land Spirit Pokemon
Last but not least, Tapu Fini, the water/fairy-type guardian of Poni Island, has the power to manipulate water -- a power that typically manifests as a mist.
When it uses its Misty Terrain ability, ground-bound Pokemon will take only half damage from dragon-type moves and become immune to status afflictions.
