Classic fun, and nothing more.

Well, what is there to say? It is Galaga. Classic game. Classic fun. End of story.

Gameplay (7/10): Well, insect-like alien ships threaten you (the galaxy perhaps?)...so you have to take them down. Simple as that. Endless waves of ships will come at you until you run out of ships, classic Namco style. Nothing new here, the same game we all know and love. The reason it actually gets a decent score here is not because of its classic standing, but because it is still fun to play after all this time. Why? Dual ships. This one feature in the game (having the enemy abduct your ship then getting it back so you can use two ships side-by-side for dual firepower) is what made it so unique and fun. It still adds a certain flare to it. Nonetheless, this is a classic that is fun to play even now.

Graphics (6/10): On an SDTV, GREAT. On an HDTV, not so great. Let me explain. On an SDTV you see on the sides of the screen the classic arcade box art (as in from the actual arcade machine), so it makes you feel like you are in the arcades playing. On an HDTV there is so much of this that it just feels like there is too much of that and too little of gameplay screen, since it is so wide. It doesn't feel arcade-like anymore. As far as actual game graphics go, it is unchanged, which is actually the problem. I mean it looks true to the original, and you can distinguish all the ships, but it lacks the graphical update that other classic Arcade games DO have (like Frogger).

Sound (5/10): Not much, classic bleeps and such that to me didn't sound changed at all. It just gets a little old sometimes, regardless of it being a classic.

Value (5/10): Besides replay for the sake of classic fun or getting insanely high scores (which are recorded on a leaderboard), this game has no reason to play. Achievements you ask? All are too easy and can be accomplished in one day fairly easily (hence the reason why I have all of them).

Overall, this game is only for those who really loved the original Galaga. It has a great nostalgic feel and nothing more. I will be honest, despite my not so great score, I LOVE the game, but only because I grew up on this game. So if you are a fan don't hesitate, just know you are getting the raw, original version. For others, your money is probably better spent elsewhere.
