Why two discs?

Disc 1 contains the game, Autovista experiences, over 250 cars, and all standard environments and tracks.
Disc 2 contains additional autovista experiences and nearly 250 extra career cars.
This is straight from the manual.
Installing the first disc speeds the game loads up. The second disc is purely extras that add to the main game experience.

1st Disc is your disc for playing the game. 2nd disc is for content to be installed on the harddrive for faster load times. Such as the majority of AutoVista Mode. Takes about 10mins to install not bad. Don't even have to restart the game afterwards.
