Can anyone tell me if this game is worth it? I might be buying an xbox soon and the forza series has always interested me.

@tribalgamer I know this is a month late but if you get any Forza, I'd go for 3. The only reason why you wouldn't is that it is rather monotonous. You race on race tracks, there is no weather system, and you can have anything from cheap low performance cars like classics to power houses and the difficulty can be tuned by turning driving assists off. Things like traction control can be a massive help if you are driving something like a Koenigsegg. That is about it. It is very serious. So if you ever think "I'll go for Need for Speed instead." it is probably not going to be for you.

Also 3 and 4 are only subtly different so either one is a good choice.

Some of the people commenting seem to forget this is a spin off game. A spin off is usually never up to the same standard as the main series. Was Chain of Memories as good, or even that similar, compared to Kingdom Hearts? Was Uncharted: Golden Abyss as good as Uncharted 2? No, all spin offs have their place but they rarely play the exact same as the original series. Forza Horizon is very much a simulator racing game, the "hardcore" focus is toned down to make it easier to play, while appealing to a different market through the party atmosphere and open environment.

Seems very similar to TDU.. I wonder which one is better.

It's just false advertising to call it Forza. It's just a new Grid game. It has nothing to do with the Forza title, one could have called this by any name but Forza was used to cash in on a successful title.

How can a reviewer make a statement about how realistic a racing game is while at that very moment in the video a car bounces off a guardrail at 150mph with no damage, barely even slowing down?! This is a child's version of driving, and the miserable storyline reflects that audience as well. This is a game any adult will find themselves muting for the short time they bother to play it.

One can drift a VW Bug like Ken Block- because that is what this game WANTS to do- it is trying to be trendy, aimed at the Formula Drift crowd more than the Formula One fans. That's okay, but it seems a bit disingenuous to market an arcade game under the Forza name. Rather like buying the new CoD and finding out it is suddenly a dance party game.

It's a fine game for what it is- an arcade style racer with a pre-teen level storyline to provide a 'reason' to be driving fast. Score it keeping that in mind and it'll score well. But anyone that puts racing and skillful driving above silly storylines and driving between bumpers like they put up for kids at the bowling alley (guardrails serve to keep you on track, this isn't a truly free roaming world) will be back to the real Forza faster than any of the cars in Horizon could get them there.

@TheLamaKnows Grid? Have you even played Grid? I've never played Forza Horizon but it's pretty obvious it's nothing like Grid.

TheLamaKnows
TheLamaKnows

@CharlesBurns @TheLamaKnows  Yes, I own both. But since you already admit to not having played both, by all means feel free to correct those that have....what could make more sense?

Let's see, rubber band physics, limited number of events and vehicles, horrible obsession with being trendy..........yeah, so very different than Grid. Only someone still years from getting their real driver's license thinks there is much difference in how the games play. Bouncing off guardrails with no damage, going from dead last to first in 500 feet because of the rubber band....pick any title of any arcade race game and insert it instead of Grid if it bothers you. Won't change the fact that it's just another arcadey racer aimed at the zit-cream crowd over fans of actual cars and realistic racing. There's nothing wrong with arcade racers other than repetition, but Forza just implies something other than cartoony racing. Like if the next CoD only had target ranges for shooting and instead became a gardening sim. People would have the same complaint- it's just not what that game title 'is'.

Horizon is an okay time killer, just like all arcade racers. I don't dislike Horizon per se. But as a fan of Forza, it's just a waste of the title Forza. It's a matter of truth in advertising I guess.

 @TheLamaKnows

If you don't want to call it Forza, just call it Horizon.  I have not played the Motorsport games, but I still enjoy playing this game because it's fun, not because i can completely deflate my tires and try to beat a Lamborghini with a Prius.

@FiFa_kirikiki thats actually because playground games, the studio microsoft assembled for, has a bunch of ex codemasters guys who set up the interface. they had guys from a whole bunch of respected racing game studios doing this game and it shows. while it may not be a "true" forza game, its still easily one of the best racing games ive ever played. great selection of cars, great customizability, and the driving physics were ported over from the other forza games and it shows, the cars handle beautifully. and they cars are so detailed. cars with pop up headlamps and whatnot pop out when it starts turning night, little pieces of attention to detail like that make this game fantastic.

When are devs going to realize that slapping a coat of exciting party-tween paint over everything doesn't sell racing games? Being a quality racing game sells it even to the drug addled raver teens, but the super-cool-cat-rave coating just detracts from the whole thing for the rest of us.

Oh, and a huge lifeless track on rails, hemmed in by invincible barriers, does not an open world make - no matter how good the handling and scenery is.

I loved Forza Motorsport 3 and 4 so much that I bought an X-box for it.

I love Need For Speed most wanted. It was a blast!

But I played Horizon in the store yesterday and I can't think of one good reason to buy it.

No split screen! Racing with friends in the same room is the best fun you can have with Forza.

No cops! No chases and hiding.

It just seems dull...

The only thing I'm disappointed about with this version of Forza. is that it would've

been fantastic if you could hit a replay button whilst driving along the scenic vistas and have the ability to capture the last 30 or 60 seconds of driving with the option to edit the clip, and post it online or save to your hard-drive.

The story line and the arcade type events do make it feel like the  NFS and Burnout Paradise franchise, however it leaves both of these games for dead with it's realistic 3d modelling of the cars and the handling of the cars that  Forza 4 has simply amazed us with over the last twelve months. Now if you're into the Codemasters racing games, you can see how much influence they've had when it came to designing the menus and the quirky character voice overs within the story line of the game just like the Grid Series and Dirt Series. It also look as though they've used Codemasters graphics engine that looks amazing and runs very smoothly! As I was saying, if you have played both the Grid and Dirt Series, you will notice that the graphics with the exception of the cars, which have definitely been rendered by the Forza dudes, the entire graphics engine and the  effects like the bloom lighting as the day cycles from sunrise to sunset,  as well as the scenery graphics, which look like a combination of Grid, Dirt 2 and Dirt 3's  textures and lighting.

This is more like nfs and burnout paradise, but still keeps the forza elements.

GAME-QUEST-EX

So, if "Forza Horizon" gets a low review, haters will say "Ha: I knew it! The game sucks, just like I expected!"

If it gets a high review score, the haters will whine: "The score is too high! It doesn't deserve it!"

I'm not even going to bother giving a mid-score example, because haters aren't interested in "balance" or "compromise" when it comes to video games they have already made up their minds about, and jumped to conclusions over.

So, the reviewer liked "Forza Horizon"? So what? It's not the end of the world.

He gave his opinions about the game, based on his experiences playing it. He never passed a mandatory "law" about how the game must be forcefully regarded as "great" by everyone, whether they like it or not.

The reviewer liked "Forza Horizons" enough to give it an 8.5, and some people want to lose sleep over it?

Seriously then: what's the point of ANY reviews? Someone is gonna disagree with them for one reason or another.

Solution: Go write your own reviews (that is, once GameSpot has fixed the current bug/glitch plaguing their User-Game Reviews Section).

I hate that goofy playboy fast-furious vibe that plagues most racing games. For me a racer must be someone with a jumpsuit and a helmet, the only music is the engine sound, tires burning, gears passing, injecting fuel, that fine driving symphony.

bultras8411

i don't get one thing - i asked around in different forums, in forzamotorsport.net. I wrote to @weareplayground  several times, asking a question that is annoyingly simple - IS THERE A D-PAD steering in Forza Horizon, and noone seems to care enough to answer with a simple yes or no. The game looks amazing, and if there is a game that will force me to use the LS to steer the car, it will be Forza Horizon, but it is kind of stupid, that people reveal so many thing weeks before the game hits the shelves, but can't be bothered to answer to this question. So if anyone know please, let us (i know for sure that there are a lot of other people using it) know wheter there is a D-pad option in what seems to be, the best driving game for 2012!

Thanks :)

@bultras8411  @weareplayground I'm fairly certain there isn't. I honestly don't know of anyone who prefers the Xbox's d-pad for racing games. Why not invest in a wheel?

bultras8411
bultras8411

@shaunmc  well, I really want a wheel, but I don't have enough place to install it the way it should. Anyhow, I have talked with a lot of people, in the forzamotorsport.net who also prefer to steer the car with the d-pad, but I am an old school gamer, and that is the reason I use it. Thanks for the info mate! Cheers!
