I'm with Rogers Internet in Canada (Rogers sucks) and right now they are messed up with counting the usage so people can download as much as they want until they fix it but when they do fix it I want to know if I can still play online or not because I'm capped at 60GB a month.

My speed is fine as I'm at 1MB / Download Max and about 164kbs / Upload.

What is the average download usuage for let's say like playing COD2 for an hour. Not hosting mind you ofcourse.

My free month is done on the 12th and I'm not buying a subscription if I won't be able to play it with the usage cap every month. Anyone know the usage cause guys at Xbox support were morons.

My connection is capped at 2GB and I download stuff all the time. A 60GB cap is ample for Xbox Live usage.

I can't just switch ISP's. The deal I have is saving me money so it's not that simple.

And how are you playing XboxLive at a cap of 2GB? I think you are talking about your connection speed I am talking about your download and upload usage per month which for me is capped at 60GB.

Even if you can't switch ISPs 60gb is tons of stuff from XBox Live in one month. Most of the demos are 1gb or less. Arcade games are capped at 50mb still i think. So you really should have problems with the 60gb limit...even though any limit is bad...just my two pennies.

60GB is more than ample on a monthly basis for downloading demos, arcade games and updates in general. Online play usually employs constant stream of small chunks of data to allow the server to keep track of game-play. So i think you should be all set..

Isn't there a way to find out the average amount downloaded / uploading during an hour of xboxlive?

Im hearing different amounts in some other forums but they sound more like guesses.

I guess I'll buy one month and just test it out when my ISP fixes their problem and can tell how much Usage I am using on a daily basis.

If you're connecting to XBL through a router, there maybe statistics counters in that router that you can reset at a given point and then see what they look like after a gaming session. The other thing you could do is call your ISP to get your current usage stats and then after the gaming session call them back and see the difference..

The usage meters and all are not working at the moment which is the only reason why I'm on Live now because I can download and Upload as much as I want but when they fix it and can tell how much I download then I will have to test it out but not sure when that will be which is why I came here to ask.

I saw one guy in a forum post saying it's probably around 800kbs just for downloading and maybe 100kbs for uploading. If that's the case and it's 900kbs or so then that means 54MB a minute and over 3GB an hour

Xbox Live runs smoothly on my 512kbps connection and it cannot transfer ANYWHERE NEAR 54MB per minute - so those figures are totally inaccurate.

You should have no problem at all. Although I do not do demos (I don't like to ruin the wow factor of seeing a new purchased game for the 1st time), I have a 4gb limit and I haven't passed the limit, and I use 360Live for more than a year now.

If 1024kb is a MB then 900 x 60sec = 54,000 which = 54Mb?

Isn't that right?

I think you're getting confused between Kilobits (Kb), Kilobytes (KB), Megabits (Mb) and Megabytes (MB). FYI: 1MB = 1024KB. 1 Byte = 8 bits.

900kbps = 113KB/s. So 113KB/s x 60sec = 6780KB per minute = 6.6MB per minute

900kbps IS NOT 900KB/s. It's not 900KB a second. See my post above.

kccp: yeah I know the ISPs are usually misleading:

1Mbit = 1,000,000 bits = 125,000 bytes or 125Kbytes per second, and this is in a error-free connection wich never happens, so expect roughtly in a 1Mbit connection to be able to get 100kbytes/s, wich is very good if achieveable.

nevertheless you shouldn't have any problem even with a 512kb link, although before I upgrade to a 2Mb link I couldn't do any download in the PC while playing. Now it's ok.

I just got off the phone with a guy from XboxLive and they have 100% no clue hahaha. He also said I probably will be ok unless you're one of those crazy gamers who play 24/7 lol

There's no need to worry. Your 60GB cap is WAY more than enough for regular Xbox Live gaming and downloading.

Thanks guys, I'm gonna do a month test none the less just to make sure but then I'll buy a year subscription.

I LOVE XboxLive...I'm addicted to COD2 online, wish it had co-op though so bad. Does COD3 have the ability to play Co-op or rather play on XboxLive with another person on your console?

XboxLive is so freaking amazing to me, way better then just campaigns. I love campaigns dont get me wrong but with campaigns getting shorter and shorter XboxLive is great cause it never gets dull for me. Except with Halo 2 cause that's just too crazy for me. I like to plan and not die every two seconds... lol

Ya know what I'm just gonna go get an XboxLive subscription for 12 months today at futureshop instead of Splinter Cell which is on sale. I rather play online anyway and mines expires on the 12th.

I have a 48 hour trial. I actually used it when I first logged in without knowing about the first month for free but it said the code doesn't work for some reason not sure why. It expired months from now and I'll give it to someone else if you want it. Call Xbox if it doesn't work because I know it didn't get used yet because it didn't seem to work when I plugged in the code

I know what you mean ;)

I was most of a campaign guy myself, and still like to do the whole games solo, you know..., my pace and stuff..., but I had (have) great experiences on Live so far, mainly in Saint's Row (made some good friends). The Achievements thing is also great fun (to do/earn them, not to cheat), and do friendly competitions with friends, and discuss strategies... yeah it's a great system!

I don't have CoD3 but I believe it has no co-op. Try Saint's Row, it's very entertaining

In Saint's Row one has Death Match; Team Death Match; Blinged Out Ride (very funny, you got kill the other guys in order to get money from the kills in order to upgrade the teams car; Protect the Pimp (one guy has no guns and the rest of the team have to protect him, obviously the other team must try to kill the pimp) - every mode can be played by a previously formed gang (aka clan).

About the solo experience if one wants to fo all the Achievements (like myself) expect arround 30-40 hours of play, if just want to do the main "quest" arround 20 hours.

The environments are very good looking, it's basicaly a good looking GTA minus the clever humour the later had.

How big is the play area for online though is it the same as the game or is it a small area. Would be kewl if it was the same size as the game

And how big is the playing area for it for online?

Would be kewl if it was the same size as the game

nope, it's not the same. And sometimes bigger areas aren't the best choice, if for example you're doing gang matches, and each gang is playing with 3 members, for instance, a huge area would make the game very slow. It is still an average size (each scenario), though.

send me a FR if you want.

When your playing online, im pretty sure it doesn't count towards your download limit. Does your ISP take viewing webpages off your limit? If it doesn't then you can play unlimited.
