i owned a 360 in the past, but lost it due to RROD. sold all the games and stuff for it but now i am thinking about Halo4/Gears4. Is it too late to get an xbox360 now? would i be better off just holding off till the 720? haven't been up on much gaming news so i don't know much about the 720/Ps4 launch.

I wouldn't hold out for the next gen console. After all, there's little to no confirmed information about it. Considering there are some great games coming out for the 360 and ones that are already out, you should pick another one up.

if you do have a ps3 then maybe look into the summer of arcade on xbox live.

Sure why not? I hear there's a $99 4gb console bundle coming out sometime aswell so that might help on the money side of things, considering the next gens release is getting closer and closer

I vote yes on getting one. Like others have said before me, you can get a new xbox for pretty cheap. Also it's the perfect time to get one because the library is pretty mature and there are 20+ games that are worth buying for anywhere between $15-$30, even more if you're willing to pay more.

Yeah, go ahead and get one and make sure that if you haven't played Red Dead Redemption and Bioshock, get those two games for sure. You should also try Sleeping Dogs, that game is so much fun, its amazing!!!! Let us know what games you played and what games your interested in besides Halo and Gears of War.

All the consoles are dead, this gen is done.

If you were staying away up to now there's no sense being foolish and wasting money on a new console now.

This generation will remain stagnant until proper utilization of a larger capacity medium, such as blu-ray discs, otherwise companies will most likely try to bolster their usage of streaming media (don't mean neflix and the like, I mean actually accessing games via server instead of physical medium) with upgrades in future variation of their console or through some sort of add-on like the sega genesis did.

sorry if this isn't as coheasive as I think it is, i'm really tired right now...

I'm actually going to go with this. Next gen is almost a guaranteed lock for late next year, so if you don't mind waiting another year and a few months I'd say do that. It's awfully late in the gen, and I think Microsoft is going to drop support for the 360 like a rock when the next Xbox comes out.

I don't get it. Why would it be too late? If anything, now is a better time to buy a 360 than when the console originally launched. There's a pretty large library of games, most of which can be bought at $20 or less, and most of the technical / hardware kinks should be worked out of the system. Plus, the reduced price makes it a better value. And if there are still games you want to play, either already out or being released in the near future, then picking one up seems like a no-brainer to me. Admittedly, I'm in a different position. I'm actually considering buying my first 360 this holiday season. As such, I haven't already owned one or played all those XBox exclusive games. So, there's a little more value there for me over someone who's already had the system and played pretty much everything but the newest releases. Even so... The soonest we're likely to see the next XBox is next holiday season. Even then, there's still no word on whether or not there will be backwards compatibility. So, if you want to play Halo 4 or the next Gears of War, the only way you might be able to play them is on a 360. And given all the hardware problems the 360 suffered, I don't know how confident I'd feel buying the next XBox at launch (not that I ever buy consoles at launch anyway). So, again, for me, it makes more sense to buy a 360 now, because the soonest I'm likely to buy the next XBox will be 4-5 years from now. But if you don't necessarily care about playing any current games, and if you're the type to buy the newest thing upon release, regardless of cost or quality, then you might be better off waiting.

There's no doubt that the 360 is near the end of it's cycle, a next gen console is sure to be announced sometime within the next year. It's already rumored to be under way, but it's never too late to get in on the action. It's going to be at least another year-and-a-half or two before the next gen consoles start hitting shelves. You've also got to consider that devs will be working on current and future 360 projects well into the first half of the new consoles life simply to establish a sizeable library. I imagine it'll be a subtle transition and I expect the 360 will be kicking for a few more years.

Depends, how much do you like 360 exclusives? I assume you have multiplats on the other console, so there is not a real reason to rebuy them for 360 (the fanboys will lie about it, but you honestly can't see a difference between multiplats except if very rare cases).

You also have to factor in if you want XBL or not, if you don't want to pay for it then most 360 exclusives are not worth owning IMO. Halo and Gears are worthless without XBL really.

So it really comes down to exclusives.

I would still get one, many great games are at heavily discounted prices now. Also I still think there will be at minimum 2 more years left for the 360's life cycle. I know others mentioned getting the 4gb model, I would advise getting the 250gb model. Installing games on your hard drive makes load times faster and the 360 less noisy since the disk spins less.

No such thing as it being too late to buy any console. In fact, technically, the best time to buy it is at the end of it's life cycle, when all the games have been released for it and dropped in price, or, at least, half way through it's life...

If you really want to play 360 exclusives like Halo 4 and multiplats like RE 6 and Call of Duty then yea go ahead and buy a 360, just know the the 360 is near the end of its life cycle and the xbox 720 or whatever it will be called will most likely be announced or shown at E3 next year (2013) and there is a good chance MS will release the new console holiday 2013. So if your buying a 360 at this point, you can still get a good year or so out of it before the 720 comes.
