Who knows. Time can only reduce the cost so much. material and labor, etc all cost money
Buy one used if your worried about $200. You can probably find one for $100 or less on craigstlist. Just incase it does break down the road, MS will fix it for $100 and then tack on new 1 year warranty. If you want to go down that route.
So buy used, Thats what i did (bought a used halo reach edition for $120 on ebay) and it was in mint condition and its still working. Just make sure you buy from a "top rated" seller.
Honestly dude, you can grab a 60 gig pro model dirt cheap these days, sure its pre-owned but it will do the trick. Because its an older system be sure to keep in a well ventilated area with plenty of space to breath. To date I honestly still believe the xbox 360 to be the greatest console ever created. And the best thing is, there is still plenty of games to come out on it, even games that arent coming to next gen like "Escape from Dead island" which looks interesting to say the least.

Definitely get the original XBox 360 Slim. Stay away from the 4GB XBoxOne looking 360. You should be able to still find XBox 360 slims. I'm still trying to sell my rare Star Wars themed XBox 360 Slim for $500.
