question. if the steambox will run on windows 8, and if the xbox 720 supposedly runs windows 8 pro, would you not be able to down load steam right to your console and play your games?

Doubt it's going to happen that way.

That would be cool, but I'm not sure that would be allowed.

Definitely not going to happen. Microsoft isn't going to allow a competitor to go against their own digital service on their own platform.

if it was going to be on windows 8, the XBOX feasibly would have to run windows 8 RT, NOT pro. that way u COULDN'T install 3rd party apps that arent approved through the store, but mainly because windows 8 PROPER is only compatible with intel and AMD chips. Tradiontally, consoles have been running on IBM chips for power effeciency, and some strong rumours suggest the NExtbox will be ARM based (but no one truely knows until E3)

Actually the opposite might happen.

It looks like Microsoft is looking into cloud based solutions in oprder to abstract the gaming ahrdware away. That means you might be able to purchase and play Xbox games on your windows 8 PC/laptop/tablet.

OK TC. Do you even know what steam is? and do you know what steam box is suppose to be? 1: steam is a pc client that isa store and that does a great job stores your games in one place and other things great for gamers so with that being said why would microsoft allow steam to be on their console? 2: steam box is going be open source which means sorta like your pc. Allow you to do what you want 3: consoles are closed source forcing you to follow their ways. it most likely won't run win 8 like on pc. it will run different type of win8
