So, I've owned an Xbox 360 since launch day and I never really bothered with racing games when they came along. On November 14th my pre-ordered white Xbone with Sunset Overdrive will arrive and I've noticed a lot of the XB1's promotional campaign involved the Forza series.

Could somebody tell me the appeal of racing games? I'm not judging or saying they're bad, I'm just wondering what's so captivating about them. Interested in trying new things and broadening my...Horizons.

Basically what you are asking is for someone to explain blue, green or how does beer taste or why you like certain food to you without ever trying it. There are many drive games and all are basically the same, you drive and race, that´s it, but it´s like shooters, in shooters you shoot, what or who and with what depends on the game. I´m pretty much simple minded I have GT, Forza and even Mario Kart, I find them entertaining and that´s it.

You can always ask someone to lend you a game and try it.

Well I'm a racing/car fan so I enjoy being able to drive/race them, even if it's only in a game. I guess if you don't like that sort of thing, then you probably won't get into the Forza games, especially the Forza Motorsport games.

I'd say there are more than that.

Forza 5 is my last racing game. Even though AI meant to be from the CLOUD you can still tell its heavily scripted in most parts and they do the same thing over and over again. Until decent AI comes to racing games I am done with them. Its like they ram you and you spin off. you ram them to make them spin off but you just still spin off and they just keep going round the track as normal.

I'm not a fan of racing games they just don't appeal to me but I can see why other gamers enjoy them.

I can't afford an expensive car but racing games let me live my fantasy about racing, kinda like sports games let me live a fantasy of being a professional athlete. There is a lot of skill involved in a good racing game and online racing is a lot like a good MP game (i.e. COD) where you challenge other people. Fun stuff.

@rumbleruses: I've only ever played one racing game and it was with my brother called pgr4. I didn't like it. Much rather have a race around a custom built map on halo with some mates cruising around on mongooses.

I like some racing games. I've come to accept I don't like the Forza Motorsport/GranTurismo simulation racing games, but I do enjoy games like Burnout and Need for Speed. I also enjoyed Midnight Club. I'd say my favorite though are Dirt 3 and Grid. Games that rely more on drifting/arcade elements along with realism.

You should try the new need for speed. I realized as I was doing 200mph through a forest road that this was exhilarating. Its just a one of those expieriences that a FPS shooter doesnt bring. As a gamer we should indulge in every genre. I used to hate RTS game but theyve grown on me. Thank you Halo Wars
