I know its not recommended to stand the xbox one vertical....but I find it so much more convenient, if the game is downloaded onto your system and the disc is not spinning then how bad can it be? People say it covers a vent but what if I stand it on like a gated platform so the vents won't get covered.

Do you really want to take the risk? I personally wouldn't have my Xbox One standing up vertically but to each their own.

One issue you might hit is if the cooling design depends on warmer air rising to the top of the unit. The wireless antennas may not perform as well either.

do you guys really think its so delicate? lets say its vertical, the x1 has SOOO many vents all over I doubt it will ever overheat. and if the games are downloaded, it won't affect the disc drive. I wish I can ask somebody who actually did this, I saw a vid on youtube of a guy who stood his vertical

Considering the Xbox 360's nightmarish reputation, do you really want to take that chance? I don't set it vertically just because it doesn't look right.

If you can make sure the console is stable and no vents are covered then it might be fine...only issue I could see is the main vent being sideways and it adversely affecting heat transfer.

Your best bet would be setting it on the side near the disc drive...that way the heat from the main heatsink would not affect too many other components. Just my guess

I've never and will never put my console vertically... Mainly because it's almost guaranteed to get knocked over in my house.

When I had my Xbox 360 I stood it up vertically and it started acting really strange and glitchy. My Xbox One told me DON'T DO IT so I'm not going to do it.

Well that's the thing, it's not only us who are saying not to keep your console standing up vertically - Microsoft themselves have suggested not to do it. I think there's fair reason they recommended not to, like some have pointed out it might interfere with the cooling design.

Exactly, and I don't argue with my console manufacturers:) Under no circumstances should you place your Xbox One vertically, simple as that, I recommend you stop thinking about this TC unless you have a spare Xbox One and money to burn.

"...Albert Panello, senior director of product management and planning at Xbox, told GameSpot at the Tokyo Game Show."

"...It wouldn't be a cooling problem, we just didn't design the drive for vertical. Because it's a slot loading drive, we just didn't design it for both."

"The Xbox 360 is perfectly happy positioned horizontally as it is vertically, of course. But according to Panello, only 20 per cent position their current-gen Xbox vertically."

I had my 360 vertical for all its life span, about 7 years and it was fine.

my 360 is out of retirement now because of steam dicking me around taking dark souls 2 off me.

so I went and got it for my old 360.

used to stand ps3 vertically as well.

Nope since putting it vertical blocks out a major vent and it is not designed for that also they scratch discs that way too.

I've had our XBox One standing vertically for years. It does not in any way damage the system. You just have to lay it horizontally when you insert a disk and then stand it back up after a few seconds...

No I kept mine flat, I was always afraid when ejecting the disk I might step on it.

I never stand any console vertically. I'm too afraid of knocking it over by accident.
