What's going on folks. Lately I've been "playing" a lot of Project Spark and am currently building a 2D Metroidvania Style Action Platformer. I've having a ton of fun doing it and am learning a lot about game development and thought I'd share a bit of the progress with you.

Here are a few videos of what I'm working on:

Introduction:

An early sub-boss Test:

Zombies!:

Zombie Area Boss:

So is anyone else here making anything? Do you have any levels you've finished and that we can play? Any videos to show?

Project Spark? Not sure (they'll probably announce it at E3) but the Beta is open now so anyone can download it.

Right, I should have clarified that. The beta is only Windows 8.1 and XB1. I don't think there will be a 360 Beta, but we should hear something at E3.

@HadOne2Many

All I want is a retail payment option.... I'm not a big fan of free to play.

I'm not sure how the free to play model will work out yet either, it's already changed a few times. As of now anyone can download and play a level no matter what content was used to create it, but if you want to edit one of those levels or use the DLC assets in your own creation you need to either unlock it with in game credits or part with some cash. As of now there is no content locked behind any permanent paywalls, it can all be unlocked for free if you play long enough to earn the credits. New content is token only (real money) for a set amount of time before it can be unlocked via credits.

I agree with you though, I'd rather have just given them $60 and have access to all of it though instead of buying stuff for $5 and $10 here and there.

@HadOne2Many

I looked deeper into this genre about games about making games..... Turns out its part of a concept called Visual Programming..... Its a great way for people to get into to game developement since its in a format every gamer understands.... Visuals !

However I am really starting to get rather impatient so I'm gona cleanse my palette with Disney Infinity's Toy Box until this is released.

I'm in a bit of a pickle though, they Just announced Disney Infinity 2.0 and I feel like I should wait, so now I'm stuck with no creative outlet. :(

any suggestions ? Or should I draw pictures :p ?

@Lulu_Lulu: honestly I'm problem not the best person to ask that question. Project Spark is my first game of this type (other than painting cars in Forza). I was actually using/learning GameMaker Studio prior to trying out Project Spark (after seeing some of the benefits first hand to doing a 2D game in a 3D environment I've decided to switch development over to Unity though, is is surprisingly similar to Project Spark). Progress was very slow going for me though since I was having to create all the art assets myself, which is why I'm taking a break from that and building in Project Spark for now.

@HadOne2Many

hmmmmmm..... I haven't done any programmin or used a computer in 5 years I was never good at Delphi anyway.... But I really loved doing it. I'm also not much of a talented artist.

Still, I'm tired having one foot out the door...... I'l find something I can use.

@Lulu_Lulu: from what I understand, Project Spark is the spiritual successor to Kodu, so if you are interested in Project Spark that's a good place to start and will give you a better understanding when you are able to play it on the 360.

@behardy24: it is basically a game creation engine where all the art assets are provided to you, as well as tools for creating your world. The purpose is to create and share (and play other people's creations). Kind of like a cross between Minecraft and Little Big Planet. It also serves as a fairly easy way to introduce people to game design who have no prior coding experience.

I'm dying to drain my XBL account because Microsoft hates their consumers so I'l be purchasing Kodu 1st. Then we'l see about the other 2 at E3.

If anyone catches any new on this game today, feel free to post it here. I'll try and watch the coverage while at work, but if I get busy I may not be able to see it all.

So far we have a Sci Fi theme confirmed as well as Conker. Hopefully we'll hear more when someone sits down and interviews Team Dakota.

Did you even bother reading the thread before posting? Because if you did you'll probably notice I already mentioned I'm making a game outside of Project Spark in addition to this game.

The new additions for Project Spark is going to be cool. Like the new Space set. Now you can fight battles in Space. Conker is going to be great fun too.

I downloaded the beta the other day and messed around in it some. It seems like it takes a lot of work to get everything to work the way you want it too, but it is probably one of the more accessible game-creation tools I've seen so far.

I played this really cool game some guy made where you move your right cursor around these block puzzles and try to leave a trail without missing any spaces. It was really ambitious, and if a person can make a game like that in the beta, I can't imagine all the different kinds of games someone can probably make by the time the full game is released.

May mess around on the beta some more, idk yet. I guess it will depend on the kind of mood I'm in. Maybe between now and Fall I'll make something in it, since a lot of the games I want to play come out in the Fall.
