Obviously there isn't much monetary value in Achievement Points, but why do some people so religiously try to get them?
This is a good question... for some, it's to compete with friends, for others its to push their skills to the limit, for those select few its to be the best of the best.

What is it to you? And check out my blog, and comment with your total gamerscore.

To me, It just sits there and does nothing. I don't really care about how high the score is. getting acheivements is fun. and I have about 4,000 points right now.

They give you a feel of accomplishment and they increase the replay value of 360 games by a lot.

In the case where achievement points are difficult to obtain, I use them to display my appreciation for a game. Oh, there's no practical purpose for achievement points, it's all ego and showing-off too.

I love Achievement Points, getting them just feels likes such an accomplishment. It does also increase replay value of games because you just wanna get the 1000/1000!

its a way to brag to your friends and it always instills alot of replay value into your games because your trying a different way to play it to get all the points.

Replay value. Just that little extra incentive to beat every single game on hard or play 25 seasons of madden.

Isn't it obvious? To challenge you. You can build up your gamerscore, and wear it under your gamertag like medals and ribbons or something. It's also a good way to find out info on someone. I can see if someone has beaten the singleplayer in a game, on a certain difficulty even. I can see when they bought the game, and when they got their last achievement. I can get an idea of how experienced they are in multiplayer.

They're alright, but I think true online gamers such as myself :) would rather not have them, because people will do stupid things that don't help the team (ex- GeOW online) to get them.

Someone asked me this the other day and this is the best answer I can give. Remember the good old days of Goldeneye on the N64? Remember the feeling of accomplishment when you achieved one of the target times and got stuff for your game? I kind of equate gamerscore to that, even though it doesn't net you unlocks, the achievements are still worth it for replay value and bragging rights.

they add so much replay value to the games

like in Crackdown, i would have stopped playing that game the moment i finished the storyline, but the achievements made me come back for more

Bragging rights and/or a signs of skills and/or no life... I wish though that there was a reward system tied into it in which x amount of points gives you x amount of MS points or something. I dunno, just a thought...

The point of gamerscore is to brainwash people into buying games they normaly wouldnt buy just to get gamerscore.

Bragging rights over your friends, especially ones you have the same game(s) as, so you can compare.

It also adds replay value, I would only ever play player matches on gears, but now if my friends aren't on, I play ranked matches to slowly work towards all the achievements (aside from seriously... being realistic I will never get that one.)
