Xbox LIVE Silver Membership: Why?

Okay...for us Xbox LIVE users that are poor and cant afford the Gold membership, what the point of silver anyway? I mean. wure your online you get to be online, but THAT'S all...........

1: What game have online multiplayer without the XBL membership?

2: 59.99+tax+1 month gold membership=72 Freaking dollars!?!?! Why?

So if I think about it now, whats the point of it all?

1. You need Gold to play online.

2. .....Just get it... if you want it. XD

Simple conclusion : Silver... is... worthless!

Its Simple. with Silver you can:

1. Download Content
2. Use the Marketplace
3. Patch Games

Well you don't want any of the games that have multiplayer without a gold account. They are MMOs and they need monthly fees (which cost more than Xbox Live..... a lot more).

A silver account lets you download arcade games (so download games) and content for games (such as free content). If you don't really want to spend money to play games online, but may want some content for your game then you can still expand your gaming experience without having to spend $50 (which saves you more than then paying for each month) a year.

Yeah...I know that...But the game that you are buying (Eg:Halo 3) is 50 or 60 bucks. So thats what I meant to say. And from that being said ALL of the good games require XBL gold, so thats whay it cost 70+ bucks just to play it.

And some people just arn't understanding what I'm rying to say. If you just ran out of your 1 free month membership and didn't know that you needed the member ship to play your newly bought copy of COD4 for the multiplayer, you'd be preaty pissed, right?

and wtf 59=tax=1 month = 72 bucks? you a joke learn how do math and iam preety sure your tax in your state is NOT 20% and to beforreal its only 50 bucks for 12 months

1:no game has online muti with silver they giv silver to people for free so they can spend money on new maps and movies and maby updats to games to fix bugs and down a patch for old xbox games so you can play them so there you go

btw xbox comes with 3 free trail gold acconts so ya

just go buy ps3 and get online free and be happy with lag all year around so gl

I just looked it up... Canada, IIRC, only has xbl gold + vision, so it's around $89.99.

Unless you Renew Via your Credit Card. the price is the same. Our Kit does cost more though for first time users.

It's a sales tactic, and a pretty smart one at that. They give you a small piece of the real thing for free, get you hooked, then sit back and collect your money.

To some degree, MS is to the gaming world what a crack dealer is to the ghetto...

Silver is there so that people can download demos or updates or mods for their games, and are not interested in playing online.

(Gold is better, since gold members get stuff like a week early than silver members)

well, Silver comes with a free month of Gold live, so just keep making accounts of silver and put in fake info crap and BOOM you got yourself free xbox live...just do this every single time your 1 month free gold expires.

I had that ideal sitting in my mind for like a while now, but don't want to try it for fear MS would wise up as to the fake accounts and send in Chief to take me out...:? (Would be an ideal if I'm really desperate)

You get what you pay for. Compare XBL to Nintendo's Wi-Fi service or the PlayStation Network, which are both free and obviously don't compare to XBL's service. If you want free multi-player, get Windows Vista and play games that support dedicated servers (Halo 2, Shadowrun, Kane & Lynch, Gears of War PC, etc.), since you're allowed to play as a silver membership with free online multi-player with Games for Windows-LIVE.
