I totally disagree with you guys. I think what makes the 360 hot is the tight game lineup and the solid online multiplayer. As well, I think the game lineup over the next year or at least season is what makes the 360 so hot.

although hot in a different way from what you guys went with but the TC didn't clarify. :)

computers get it hot that simple they get really hot so hot that they fry themselves. Thats why they are all supoosed to have heatsinks and cooling solutions. the 360s isnt good enough to keep it from breaking

The heat is mainly caused by a high powered graphics chip with a crappy small heatsink for cooling. This has been somewhat improved in the latest revisions done to the console in the last month or so where a 2nd heatsink attached by a heatpipe has been added to the GPU cooler When they shift the GPU manufacturing from 0.90nm to 0.65nm it will use less power and run cooler. Combined with the new heatpipe heatsink hopefully that will end the overheating issues with future 360 models. (MS are starting to fit the new heatpipes on repair 360s too)

Semi-passive cooling on the GPU/CPU to make the console smaller. It's teh suck.

360 Consoles that were made at the release date until last 5 weeks have been made with 90nm chips which the heat is intensively hot and may cause freezes during long hours ofgameplay. Weeks ago game retailers were called by microsoft to refund their 360 so they can have new ones sent in, not confirmed if there is FALCON (65nm chips) installed into the console which reduces the heat greatley and may prevent future problems such as the 3 red lights.

Sometimes it's due to overheating. One of my 360's died of dvd failure. Another one suffered from artificing which generally means the graphics card is clocked too high or overheating.

I think the 360 is so hot because of its sleek curves, stylish buttons, and its spunky attitude.
