Lemme put it this way. If you get Oblivion, you don't need other RPGs. You have THE ultimate RPG in your possession.

well the main reason im so excited for mass effect, is because of its setting

oblivion is a great game and complete rpg and all, but i get swayed from it due to it being set in the stone age

i dont know why you would need to play oblivion to get "readY" as mass effect is comming out in like a month

just wait for your rpg fix, and no i dont think you will like oblivions combat

Personally I think the XBox games Star Wars Knights of the old Republic 1  made by the Mass Effect Developers and no.2 too.

Isn't Mass Effect supposed to be more of an action/adventure RPG, in the vein of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance? Where you control one member of a party but can set parameters for the other characters?

I know it's not turn-based.

they're both rpgs but they will be different.  play KOTOR (Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic) whether you like star wars or not, it is a great game, and will be more similar to Mass Effect

If you have a lot of time to put into oblivion then get it. I made the mistake of buying it, not thinking that I only play games for 1 to 2 hours per night at most. So I  progressed slowly and lost interest because I didn't have the time to put into it. Amazing graphics and annoying load times and lots of content  sum up my opinion of oblivion.

id say dont get it cuz you'll burn out on it. oblivion is a great game dont get me wrong but i played it for like 2 weeks straight when it came out and didnt touch it again till 7 months later and that was only for a couple of days too. and if you play that a lot you'll want to play non rpg games more later (especially if youre not a big rpg guy)

I wouldn't call Oblivion an RPG. I'd call it sexual chocolate. Which means its very good. Esp. if you have a HDTV. Here in the UK it is now roughly 20 quid, which for a game like that, is giving it away!!

To me, Oblivion was disappointing.  Morrowind was much better.

You should buy Oblivion, its a great game... but not to get ready for Mass Effect. I don't think the games will be similar. Both great, but in their own separate ways.

Mass Effect is not coming out in a month. We will be lucky to see it by Auguast. I say get Oblivion. You will spend 2 hours just creating your character. It is the deepest character creation ever made. You can literally make any kind of face you want. (Just never become a Vampire.)

You should get it because it rocks, not to prepare for a game.

You can never have too many RPGs. I plan on picking up Mass Effect, Two Worlds, Fable 2, etc. etc. They are major time consumers but I plan to get every great RPG released.

Well, Oblivion is different to Bioware RPG's in almost every way possible, so I wouldn't recommend you get it to get ''ready for Mass Effect''. But I would recommend you get Oblivion simply because it is not only one of the finest RPG's, but also one if the finest games ever made, period.
