I just bought a refurb online for my dad, and it doesn't have the hdmi port, so i'm assuming it's an older model. I've heard that the older ones are more prone to red ring of death. My question is, is there a way other then keeping the xbox in a well ventilated area to prevent RROD? I'm mainly asking as it pertains to the period of time you play in a sitting. Can this problem happen as soon as you turn the system on, or does it occur from playing long periods of time? If so what is considered to be an unsafe period of time to play?

I have had the red rings of death before and it only happened after I turned my Xbox off i don't think it depends on how long you play it for also moving it in to a ventilated area helps for a while:D

It's a design fault. It'll probably happen after a year to a year and a half. Just treat it well and wait for the inevitable.
