question about gears of war series

do i need to play the campagns in gears of war 1 and 2 to undertsand whats going on in gears of war 3? just asking because i just bought a xbox 360 slim friday and i'm looking for some good 360 games to add to my collection

I'd say you would have to play to get a full understanding on the story.

Plus, if you're looking for great games for your console, 1 and 2 are both fantastic.

And it'll only cost you about $20 used on Gamestop's online store, which I find to be a steal. :)

If you want to know what went on prior to gears 3 then yes. otherwise its not a big deal. i haven't even read the novels yet. what's to lose? buy 1 & 2. TU6 for gears2 isn't all that bad.
