I thinking of buying an Xbox 360 but my friend's friend's Xbox 360 overheats in 3 hours!

So I have some second thoughts

Is that even possible?!?

Does it have something to do with the 360 being modified or living in the Philippines?

What do you think could be his problem?

So long as its cool enough and not in an enclosed space, it'll be ok. If the room you are going to have it in is always really hot then you might have a problem.

your friends xbox 360 mite not of had a fan. If you get one make sure its in open space, keep it clean ( no dust around it). Should be fine!

Unless you keep it in a box or the fans are broken that's not possible. I leave my 360s on basically 24/7 and yeah they break a lot but don't overheat. Just keep them in a place with a lot of air around it and clean it.

I only had one overheat problem. That was due to me housing the 360 within an enclosed cabinet, adjacent to my cable box and DVD player, with little to no circulation.

After that, Iput the 360 in an open area (and raised it about 1/2 inch on four wooden feet so as to keep the underside cool), and since then, I haven't had a single overheat problemin the last three years (even after leaving it on accidentally for 48+ hours).

As long as you keep the fans clear and the console clean, you'll be fine.

Sounds like an older model that won't be lasting much longer. Make sure you get the latest version which has the 256mb integrated flash memory and you will be fine.

I guess if its about luck being on your side. I play my console for 2-3 hours and it doesnt get hot at all, just warm at the back. The fans do make a large noise, but I guess that just means its cooling your system. :)

overheating is all about how you take care of your system, if you leave it on carpit its not gonna last as long as it would if it was higher up and able to get air. i can have mine on for 12+ hours and not have any problems with it

I played mine for over 3 hours on Sunday, and it didn't once show any sign of overheating. I've been thinking of getting the add-on fan I keep seeing in GAME, but when thinking about Sunday, it feels pointless now. Maybe my Xbox 360 is more capable of longer usage than others.

if he's modified it then of course that messes with the integrity of the system. they only over heat if broken. and the sign is something like 2 red lights maybe. or just 1. if he dont get that then its not getting the overheating error and its something else. dont get the add on fans, they break the xboxs and invaliadte the warranty. the fans have been shown to burn out parts of the power sockets and leave big black stains on the system around the fans because they dont properly let the heat escape.
