AMD (the makers of 360's GPU) has stated that the next generation xbox will have the ability to have CGI graphics on par with those used in Avatar. Here is my source. What do you guys think?

But, just to clarify, the most expensive PC rigs can do it because that is what they are making the videos on. A PC. Just for clarity sake ;)No it won't.
Even the most expensive PC rigs can't do that now or in the near future so how do they expect a 4 or 500 Euro console to do that?
People who believe this will be sorely let down.

Find me this thread with a source of proof elsewhere on this board.Okay, I guess their is one, but mine was made 5 minutes before his, so it is his fault for not checking the first page before posting.[QUOTE="airshocker"]
Holy christ. Can we not make the same thread a million different times?

Just for clarity sake ;) But to render just ONE frame of Avatar-like quality graphics takes hours (even days) on a single PC. (Even if it was top-of-the-line) I honestly can't see this type of quality running in-game.[QUOTE="balfe1990"]

I am well aware that this will not happen. They probably have one shred of truth in there that they were able to blow into proportion. And yes, I am also aware that no top of the line computer can render it in real time, but when he said top of the line computers couldn't handle it at all he was incorrect.

But...they can't?
Not in any practical way. If you want to get very technical, then yes, it's probably possible but you'd need tens of thousands of euros worth of equipment. And it would not be running in real time.
So in essence, you cannot make a game that has Avatar-like visuals and render it dynamically i.e. what a game actually does. You could have static images and pre-rendered stuff but you can't actually play a game like that. And yes, not even on top of the line PC's.
So why the hell would it be possible on a console i.e. something that always offered a budget option in favour of a more expensive and less user friendly gaming PC.
Maybe in two or three generations but right now, there ain't a snowballs chance.
[QUOTE="LustForSoul"]At least we know it will be a big leap in gaming performance.MarcRecon
Agreed, I think next-gen will take a huge leap as far as graphics go but as far as inovation I don't think so.
If innovation means gimmicks, then hopefully no. Won't be Avatar CGI but if they state it will be it must mean it's definitely way better. Please Log In to post.
