Since there is only one vent that sends out hot air and two that bring in cool (on the sides, or top and bottom if standing) I keep mine laying down. With older Xbox's I would keep my vertically. It may have to do with how hard it is to eject a game if it is standing up and you are on the other side of the button.

Horizontal, thats to prevent the risk of getting your disc damaged.

horizontal, because I don't like my 360 to fall over and ruin a disc.

Seeing as how the Xbox 360 has a disc tray unlike PS3 and Wii, I don't see any reason not to have it horizontal. Also, by having it stand vertical, you're covering one of the main vents which is the largest of the two vents.

I keep mine horizontal. I think I've heard that a vertical XBox can scratch discs.

the new xbox has no vents on its left side,i think its better to leave it horizontal to avoid disc scratching

Horizontal. It vents the heat better and gravity helps your disk stay in its right place. My disks are impecable, no joke.

He said Vertical. That means if it was standing up, it would be covering a vent that brings in air, not if it was laying on its' side.

I really don't think it matters. I usually have mine vertical. Have had zero problems with disc scratching and/or over heating.

Horizontal because that's how it fits in my entertainment center. Seriously though all 360s were designed to work either way, so put it however you want. I've got three of the white ones that sit vertical and never had a problem with them.
