New Vegas dlc quick question

hey guys, just saw the trailer for the new Vegas dead money addon, I was just wondering if you had to have the main storyline completed before you could start the dlc

You don't.

No and on a side note, you can not play the DLC after beating the final mission. The DLC does not extend gameplay after the final mission and can only be played prior to it.
