mass effect review from uk magazine !!!

I just read a review for mass effect in one of the uk's leading magazines that came out today.

Let me just say that i was really really looking forward to this game so possibly my expectations were a little to high. i was expecting a score of around 95%. BUT

IT WAS REVIEWED AT 90% !!! with quite a few gripes. the worst gripe was the way some of the aliens attacked and the layout of environment when fighting. the stupidier aliens apparently attack by just running at the player. when this is coupled with narrow corridors you can just sit back and destroy by pressing shoot repeatedly, without any movement. this happens multiple times during the game. also your teammates often take up the best cover positions and some battles become simply trail and error to find the best hiding place. once found you can just sit there and pick of all attackers.

having said that the interaction with the game story line is supoosed to be awesome and the size of the good.

i am dissppointed and feel that goty maybe not be achieved by mass effect but, im still buying it, after reading the prequel, and going to enjoy as much as i can.

Luckily for me, I'm looking forward to this game for it's story and exploration, as long combat isn't supidly bad, it doesn't worry me.

I still think this will get GOTY.

the first complaint about how they attack is ridiculous, obviously not all aliens are super intelligent and work with strategy, and the second complaint is idiotic as you decide how your group members fight, you can set them to passive to follow you and therefore you can get the best spot and theyll work around you instead of the other way around.

it to me like these people are complaining because the combat isnt exactly like halo.

good point about the passive.

they did have alot of positives in the review but the overall score was a shock. to put it in perspective in the same issue they reviewed OB at 97% and previously halo3 at 95% and bioshock 94%.

I too don't care what the UK mag says but to say that it's only america that counts is way off the point here... Mass Effect is just going to be an excellent game that will be wellworth its money and a 90% is still a great achievement so what are we whinig about? I've followed Mass Effect from the beginning and I know its going to be good and these reviews just give me a little more appreciation for the game. even if gamespot gave it a 1.0 i would probably still buy it because i like RPGS and i loved KOTOR 1 and 2. And finally: who cares about the fighting system im buying it because of the graphics the AI and the amazing dialogues and story :DRubenNL

This game is looking to be awesome

well Gameinformer gave it a 9.7 i dont know why u take the UK review into consideration.Their always bashing the 360 in anyway possible.Cmon their Sony fanboys **** EMPsychocensory

the average of all the reviews is the best indicator of a game. with those two mass effect is at a 94%.

Its gonna be so great , but its first released here in Europe the 23th Nov. and that really sucks

Either way, anything considered a 90% or above is still great. I usually make my own decision after playing a game, but at least I know to expect some A-class material...mmm hmm.

friday release dates seem to be a nasty fashion in europe. it takes a very special game to break that !!!

lots of people get paid on a friday and then have the whole weekend to play a game.possibly a reason ?

are you going to read the mass effect book before you play the game ? thats one of the reasons i so excited about mass effect. it will be the first time ive read a game book....especially to read a book in order to then play a game seems toadd another layer of quality to the actual game.

Either way, anything considered a 90% or above is still great. I usually make my own decision after playing a game, but at least I know to expect some A-class material...mmm hmm.

im a slave to reviews. i understand that its always a personal opinion no matter what the reviews are but i just dont feel easy about investing time and money into something that others think isnt worth it. a kind of peer pressure, maybe ? but also that usually the games i do enjoy have reviewed well so ive kind of learnt to rely on them especially when money is tight.

no, no, i hear ya. i am too. i usually agree with gamespot and egm, so if something gets at least a 9 or higher, i know that it's fully worthy of the full price tag.

a 90% for mass effect so far, is pretty good, and i expect a lot greater things to be said about it.

back on topic, i cant wait to get mass effect. if the book is anything to go by (written by the lead story writer), not only is it a cracking book worthy of any sci-fi fan's collection, it does provide enough info so you dont go into the game blind. If your looking for a good read, reguardless of whether you do actually plan on getting the game, read this book.clyde46

a 90% for mass effect so far, is pretty good, and i expect a lot greater things to be said about it.

edge mag (uk) is may barometer. that mag reviews hard. if it gets a good score on there then its well worth a look.

im glad the book is great and written by the lead writer. it could have been a load of whack just because it was written by a third party but with the same writer the experiences between book and game should be seamless.

halo3, OB and bioshock all say not so good. im just diasppointed because i had pinned goty on mass effect and as far as xbox world are concerned that hasnt happened.
