I was really looking forward to this game but after gameplay vids I'm not so sure. It looks like another run and gun cover shooter with alot of cutscenes.

No. the freedom doesnt compare to gta, in this department, gta wins easily. But yeah the formula is similar. Honestly I'd rather have a movie like story thats scripted then walking aimlessy around a city trying to find people to tell you your next mission.
I doubt Mafia II will be just as crazy fun as GTA IV, but it seems Mafia II will be focusing on the narrative more than GTA IV, not saying GTA IV didn't do that.
