My brother wants to get a xbox 360 because it is now 200 dollars, but is it a rip off? He only plays sports games (maybe GTA too) and he is not worried too much about playing online. (he is pretty much a graphics whore) So is the arcade good enough for him.

He knows that he will have to get a HDMI cable for an extra 40 dollars, but I guess he is ok with that.

thanks.

The arcade comes with a memory card, so you don't have to buy it. I have the arcade and I'm happy with it. Just depends on your priorities. I may buy a harddrive later at some point though. Can get a 20GB one off of ebay for a fairly good price.

The arcade is totally fine to get. You can get HDMI cables for $6 (I got two 6ft cables for $13 online which included shipping, online) so that's nothing, and you can use an ipod to save games and stuff! Or you can use a computer and/or an external hard drive so the Arcade is a very viable system.

If all he does is really play sports game then the Arcade is the best way to go I'd guess.

the arcade comes with a mem stick,

so ya itll be good to start off with, he can always get a hdd later,

plus its got 5 free arcade games one is uno , thats fun to play lol,

and those 5 games seperatelly can cost ya so its worthy

now it comes with wireless controller unlike the core,

so ya go ahead,

mem stick and 5 free games make it worth it , since when you get your hdd that stick can be used to transter gamertags and stuff to one 360 to another , or if you play at a friends house you can take it with you

I have and arcade for about 4 months now and i'm totally happy with it. I don't play on-line because i don't like it,except sports games, which i play with my friends at my place. I really don't need a hard drive because i bought the console for games. The MC is more than enough for me. But that's just me...

I found many cheap 20 Gb hard-drives, but I don't see the need for one

depends is he retarted? Most people at our group home play the ps3, but there are some real sick people playing 360. They drool and smile though so it's all good.

bryanacross

you can't even spell 'Retarded' and you're calling people dumb? wow.. lol.

Anyways, the Arcade should be fine if all he plays are sports games and doesn't care about online... go for it i say!

If I were him, I'd pony up the extra 100 for the 60 gig pro so you can actually have some storage space, and you wouldn't need to buy an HDMI cable!

If your stores carry it, get the 20gb xbox go pro system.

It comes with pretty suff. harddrive space, and comes with the component cabels.

I know alot dont even mention the 20gb model, but for your brother, it is only 259.99 and it sounds like what he woudl use to its fullest.

If he isn't going to play online, get the arcade. I've done the same, don't see the point in spending more if I'll never use the other features.

I think at $200, the Arcade is less the "tard pack" that is was. Especially since it is $100 less than the next 360. If you aren't interesting in downloading content, it really isn't a bad choice. Plus, you can easily add a hard drive in the future. With 120 and 60 GB upgrades out there, I'd imagine there are a few used 20 GB hdds floating around. I know I have a 20 GB hdd sitting in a drawer unused.

i say go for it, but later in the future he will have to buy the hardrive i would recommend the 120 gb first oh and don't buy it from circuit city, you have to return everything if you have an extended warranty so they will give you a spanking new one (bad thing is if you don't have an xbox live account you lose all of your gamerscore)

No, some stores still carry the 20gb Go pro model with the component cables included for $259.99. I just bought one at my local BestBuy two weeks ago.

Well, there's little chance I'm be on broadband anytime soon to try out Xbox Live and I'm going to just use the RCA connectors to hook it up like my PS2 (though my VCR to the old coxical cable only TV I have). Also, I just want to play stuff like BioShock, GTAIV and Dead Rising. Is the Arcade okay for me?

I say skip the arcade. Go for the MS Refurb pro. Console, wireless, headset, 20gb HDD, component cables, AND RROD Protection from MS. Totally worth the extra $50USD.

It's a great value for money, $50 cheaper than the Wii but you have to spend at least another $100 if you want to get a hard drive and HD cables so you're better off buying the pro version.

if he really only plays sports games than the Arcade should be good enough. but really if you can in anyway afford it I'd get a 360 with a hard drive, it just makes things so much simpler / easier and there is a very good cahnce you'll get one in the long run anyway.

Its good enough. Even if its not, you can get a used 120gb HDD and the total system price is like 5 bucks more than buying a Premium. Plus MS is selling 20gb HDD for $30. Thats more than enough for anyone who isn't trying to have like 20 hours of video sitting on their hdd at any given time.

I don't wanna say don't listen to others saying otherwise, but don't. We are so into gaming that we spend our free time browsing message boards about video games and post in them multiple times a day. We are by no means the average joe gamer that your brother seems to be.

Also, for the love of god do not buy an HDMI cable at a retail store. I don't know why, but they have a HUGE markup. You can go on ebay and buy a 6ft HDMI cable for like $5. At a store thats like $40. And not even for monster brand, just some no name company. The internet is usually cheaper, but this is the first thing where the retail version is like 8x the price of the internet retailer version.

The arcade unit only comes with a 256MB memory card with 5 XBLA games already preinstalled, and a standard composite A/V cable. While the prepackaged games would look fine in standard def, most games on the 360 simply look better in HD, and if he's a graphics whore, he will want to step up stat. The Pro now comes with a 60GB hard drive, but comes with a component/composite cable as standard. The Elite gets the 120GB hard drive and the MS brand HDMI cable set (which includes the breakout box for hooking up non-HDMI audio outputs). Really, if he's about getting the best out of a system graphically, get the Elite and you pretty much are ready to go, since everything you'd need to maximize the Xbox 360 experience is already in the box (save for an extra controller for others to play).
